Raising Awareness
Nearly all of us know someone – a family member, a neighbor, a friend, a co-worker – whose life has been changed by a diagnosis of breast cancer. and we are encouraging all schools and all athletic and activity teams to take part in an event to raise breast cancer awareness in their communities. To maximize the impact of these events across the Commonwealth, VHSL has designated a two-week time period in each sports season (fall, winter and spring) for these special events. Officials will be notified that uniform rules will be "relaxed" to permit wearing of pink uniforms and the use of pink equipment. Game rules will not be changed, nor will any rule affecting participant safety be relaxed. Officials will be encouraged to take part in the event by using pink whistles or having a pink ribbon on their hat or uniform shirt.
