Online Rules Exam Dates - Fall Sports

Exams open July 26, close August 23, 2009

The online exams for football, volleyball, field hockey and cheerleading will open at 12:01 a.m. on July 26, 2009, and will close at midnight on August 23, 2009.  All exams must be completed by August 23, no exceptions.  Official's are encouraged to take the appropriate exam as early as possible.  All exams test knowledge of the rules book., period.  Questions are not relative to rules interpretation or application  -- if you read the rules book, you can pass the exam.  Do NOT wait until the last week to take the exam.

The exams are administered through the NFHS exam portal.  Officials who took any exam online last year (2008-09) already have the necessary logon id and password.  New and/or transfer officials must request a VHSL ID NUMBER (this request must come from your association) prior to creating a profile on the NFHS exam site.

Exams are open book.  Questions are randomized. Exam results are updated Wednesdays during the exam period.  VHSL will provide exam scores to each association as needed.  Individual officials will see their scores when they "submit" their completed exam.

All officials must take and pass a rules exam in their sport  This is an annual requirement.  A minimum score of 80 is required to be eligible for postseason play.  Officials who score less than 80 on their first attempt may take the exam a second time.
