VHSL Announces 5A Boys and Girls All-State SoccerTeams

Mills Godwin's Holden Fisher selected 5A Boys Player of the Year; Albemarle's Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper named 5A Girls Player of the Year; Briar Woods' Francois Bernard named 5A Boys Coach of the Year; Albemarle's Amy Sherrill named 5A Girls Coach of the Year

The Virginia High School League 2017 Group 5A Boys all-state boys and girls soccer teams have been selected. Mills Godwin senior midfielder Holden Fisher and Albemarle's senior goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper were selected the boys and girls 5A Players of the Year. Briar Woods head coach Francois Bernard and Albemarle head coach Amy Sherrill were named the 5A boys and girls Coaches of the Year.  Briar Woods won the 5A boys title over Mills Godwin in PK's (5-4) and Albemarle claimed the 5A girls title with a 1-0 win over Mountain View.

Sixteen (16) players are chosen on the first team and 16 players are selected for the second team.  The team is made up of five (5) forwards; five (5) midfielders; five (5) defenders, and one (1) goalkeeper. Only first-team all-region selections are eligible for selection to the all-state team.

Each all-state selection committee is composed of eight soccer coaches (four from each region).
