VHSL Announces 5A All-State Baseball Team

Halifax County's Andrew Abbot named 5A Player of the Year; Briar Woods' Jason Miller named 5A Coach of the Year


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA
The Virginia High School League 2017 Group 5A all-state baseball team has been selected. Halifax County senior pitcher Andrew Abbott was named the 5A Player of the Year and Briar Woods head coach Jason Miller was selected the 5A Coach of the Year.  Miller's Falcons won the 5A state title with a 5-4 win in 14 innings over Halifax County. Other group all-state teams will be announced as they are selected.

14 individuals were selected to the all-state squad, which includes -- three pitchers, one catcher, four infielders by position, four outfielders, one DH, and one utility player.  Only first-team all-region selections are eligible for selection to the all-state team.

Each all-state selection committee is composed of eight baseball coaches (four from each region).
