
DID YOU KNOW - VHSL first conducted girls volleyball championships for Group AA in 1983 with Abingdon High School winning the state title. Group A held its first state championship in 1986 with Page County claiming the first state crown. Group AAA held its first VHSL championship game in the fall of 1993 with C.D. Hylton of Woodbridge claiming the title. A winter sport for Group AA and Group A schools from 1983-2003, both groups moved its season to fall beginning in 2003. Frank W. Cox High School of Virginia Beach is the VHSL-record holder with five state championships.
In the 2009 VHSL Girls Volleyball Championships, Loudoun Valley High School won its first VHSL Group AAA championship and it's fourth overall (three in AA) in four sets over runner-up South County High School. Loudoun County High School won its third straight Group AA title in in three sets over Grafton High School. In Group A, Gate City High School won its second straight, and fourth volleyball title in six years, defeating Bath County High School in a thrilling five-set match.
7,370 girls at 297 member schools participated in girls volleyball during the 2008 season.

*Tournaments must be conducted over no more than 2 consecutive days. Teams are limited to 15 sets per tournament. Match format may be modified for non-dual/tournament play.
