
DID YOU KNOW - Girls first began competing for a VHSL championship in the fall of 1975 with Homer L. Ferguson High School in Newport News winning the Group AAA state title. Group AA and A held its first championships in the spring of 1976 with Waynesboro High School and Wilson Memorial of Fishersville claiming titles. Mills E. Godwin High School of Richmond has won a VHSL-record nine championships. Group A J.J. Kelly won seven straight from championships from 1991-97 while winning a record 128 consecutive matches. Waynesboro, and Langley High School of McLean have each won seven championships.
In 2010, Mills Godwin won its fourth straight Group AAA championship, while Hidden Valley of Roanoke won its first-ever Group AA title. In Group A, Gate City High School won its first title since 2007 and sixth overall after winning five stragiht from 2003-07.
3,586 girls at 263 member schools participated in girls tennis during the 2009 season.

Take I-64 East to Exit 124/Shadwell. Turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp onto Hwy. 250. At the fourth light, turn left onto State Farm Blvd. The VHSL building is the fourth building on the right.
I-64 West to Exit 124/Shadwell. Turn right on Rt. 250. At the fourth light, turn Left on State Farm Blvd. The VHSL building is the fourth building on the right.
