Girls Outdoor Track

DID YOU KNOW - VHSL has conducted girls outdoor track championships since 1973, when Falls Church High School and James Robinson Secondary High School in Fairfax finished in a tie for the Group AAA crown. Group AA/A held a combined championship meet in 1975 with Orange County High School taking top honors. In 1976, Group AA and Group A held separate outdoor championships with Loudoun Valley High School of Purcellville and Stonewall Jackson High Schol of Quicksburg taking top honors. Blackburg High School and Bethel High School of Hampton have each won a VHSL-record eight girls outdoor track championships. 

In 2009, Landstown High School of Virginia Beach and Clarke County High School of Berryville claimed back-to-back titles in Group AAA and Group A, while in Group AA Blacksburg won for the first time since 1993.

8,967 girls at 303 member schools participated in girls outdoor track during the 2009 season, making girls outdoor track the most popular VHSL sport for girls.
