
DID YOU KNOW - Groveton High School won the first-ever VHSL field hockey championship in 1977, but since then the team title has been won 16 times by Frank W. Cox High School of Virginia Beach. Cox won seven straight championships from 1989-95 which is third on the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) all-time charts, while former Cox coach Nancy Fowlkes' 392 career wins is 12th on the NFHS all-time list.
At the 2008 VHSL Championships, Cox once again took the gold, it's third consecutive title, defeating Princess Anne 3-0 in the Group AAA final. Group AA/A conducted its first championship in 2000 with Tabb High School of Yorktown winning the title. Heading into 2008, Cox and Western Albemarle High School of Crozet will be defending champions.
At the 2008 VHSL Field Hockey Championships, Cox won it's third consecutive title defeating Princess Anne 3-0 in the Group AAA final. In Group A/AA, Tabb High School won a 3-2 double-overtime thriller over James Monroe, Tabb's first title since 2000.
4,582 girls at 136 member schools participated in field hockey in 2008.

Take I-64 East to Exit 124/Shadwell. Turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp onto Hwy. 250. At the fourth light, turn left onto State Farm Blvd. The VHSL building is the fourth building on the right.
I-64 West to Exit 124/Shadwell. Turn right on Rt. 250. At the fourth light, turn Left on State Farm Blvd. The VHSL building is the fourth building on the right.
