Girls Cross Country

DID YOU KNOW -- VHSL held its first girls cross country championships in 1979 with Kempsville High School of Virginia Beach winning the Group AAA title. Group AA crowned its first champion in 1980 (Virginia High School, Bristol) and Group A in 1985 (Stonewall Jackson High School, Quicksburg). Blacksburg has won a VHSL-record 11 state championships. Brentsville District of Nokesville, won a VHSL-record seven consecutive Group A state championships from 1995-2001.

George Mason's girls won it's fourth straight Group A title, while Blacksburg won its 12th Group AA championship and first since 2008. In Group AAA, Midlothian won its second straight and sixth title in seven years.  Individual girls titles went to Sophie Chase of Lake Braddock (AAA), Carolyn Bethel of Blacksburg (AA) and Hannah Rose of Wilson Memorial (A). 2011 Results »

4,455 girls at 283 member schools participated in girls cross country in 2009.
