Boys Basketball

DID YOU KNOW -- VHSL began holding state championships for boys basketball in 1915, when Charlottesville High School defeated Lynchburg High School, 35-25. Since then, Martinsville High School has won a VHSL-record 13 state championships. In 2007-08, Group A began a two-division format to promote equity and opportunity for the smallest schools to compete for a state championship.  In 2009, Group AA began a two-division tournament format.

The 2010 VHSL champions in Group A-D1 - Madison County High School; Group A-D2 - James River (Buchanan) High School: Group AA-D3 -  Cave Spring High School; AA-D4 - Potomac Falls High School; and Group AAA - I.C. Norcom High School.

9,568 boys at 309 member schools participated in boys basketball during the 2008-09 season.
