History

DID YOU KNOW -- In 1916, John Marshall High School of Richmond defeated Harrisonburg High School, 6-1, in the first ever VHSL state baseball championship game. Since then, former J.J. Kelly High School of Wise won a VHSL-record nine state titles, including four straight from 1981-84. Richmond's J.R. Tucker High School and Bridgewater's Turner Ashby High School have each won six VHSL championships.

In 2012 , Lake Braddock won the Group AAA crown, 4-0 over Floyd E. Kellam, while Powhatan defeated Brookville, 4-1, to claim the Group AA title.  In Group A, William Monroe edged Chilhowie, 5-4, in extra innings to win the Division 2 crown, while Galax won the Division 1 championship with a 9-8 victory over Holston.

9,165 boys and one girl at 309 member schools participated in baseball during the 2012 season.
